Final results were announced on the BBC reality show – and there were unexpected duos who finished in the top two
Two women – Ruti Olajugbagbe and Hollie Steel – have been crowned the winners of the 21st season of The Voice UK.
The TV talent show, which airs on the BBC, brought 12 hopefuls into the studio on Saturday night to perform for the public votes.
On Sunday, after the results were announced, they sang a duet of the Blind Audition song Birds, as judge will.i.am was seen on camera talking to their absent mentors, Jennifer Hudson and Boy George. Hudson joined her fellow judges on stage, while Boy George remained by the contestants.
During the show, Hudson – who is fronting the Oscar-winning film When a Man Loves a Woman – said she enjoyed spending the whole season with the contestants and would come back every week until the end.
Will.i.am said the final three contestants who came out in first, second and third places were special. Asked to name his favourite member of the trio, he replied: “They are all incredible, you don’t have a favourite.”
As the final performance drew to a close, their judges praised their performances. Ollie Palmettos, from Team J-Hud, said Steel’s performance was “confusing”, while will.i.am said he loved Steel’s soulfulness. “You really embody a lot of different aspects of soul,” he said.
